Float: a companion in the corner
Float turns the Facelet window into a small tile that stays above your other apps, in the corner you choose. Press ⌘⇧F, then drag the tile where you want it, or right-click it and choose Move to Corner. Double-click the tile to bring the full window back.
Turn on Follow me while I work and you don’t have to float it yourself: when you switch to another app during a conversation, the character floats to a corner above your windows.
Talk without switching windows
The character stays quiet until you talk. Say its wake word, hold your push-to-talk key from any app, or hold the button on the tile. It answers out loud in a ChatGPT voice, and you keep working in the app in front of you. Read more about hands-free ChatGPT.
Company while you work
Say your plan out loud and use the character as a body double. Explain a stuck problem to it, rubber-duck style. Ask a quick question without opening a browser tab. Have it quiz you between tasks. Keep the routines that help, and close the tile when you want quiet.
Realistic people, not cartoons
Most desktop companions are cartoon pets or anime mascots. Facelet’s ten characters are lifelike humans rendered in 3D, with skin, hair and eyes that catch the light, gaze that follows the conversation, blinks and breathing.
| Desktop pets and mascots | Facelet | |
|---|---|---|
| What you see | Cartoon animals or anime characters | Ten lifelike 3D people |
| How you interact | Varies: clicks, idle animations, some text or voice chat | Spoken conversation through your ChatGPT |
| Where it sits | On the desktop or a window edge | A floating tile in the corner you choose |
No meter, no time limit
Your computer renders the character, so Facelet has no per-minute fee and no limit on how long the character stays on screen. Facelet is free for 30 days with no card, then $4.99 a month during the open beta, $9.99 a month after. The conversation uses your own paid ChatGPT plan, whose usage limits still apply. Rendering uses your graphics hardware, so power use and heat vary with your computer; see what runs where.
What you need
An Apple silicon Mac (M1 or newer) with macOS 15 or newer, with 16 GB of memory recommended, and a compatible paid ChatGPT account. A native Windows PC app is coming soon.
