ChatGPT can talk. It cannot look at you.

Since July 2026, ChatGPT Voice has been in the Mac desktop app, powered by GPT-Live, which listens and speaks at the same time. It is a good conversation. It is also a conversation with a pulsing shape. People have been asking OpenAI for a face during voice conversations on its own forums for years. Facelet is that face, as a separate Mac app that connects to the ChatGPT account you already have.

How the connection works

1. Sign in with your ChatGPT account. Facelet uses OpenAI’s own login. It does not ask for your password, and it does not ask for an API key.
2. Facelet opens a voice conversation on your account. It is the same voice conversation your plan already includes, started fresh by Facelet, with your plan’s usual limits.
3. Choose a face and a voice. Pick one of the ten characters, then any of ChatGPT’s own voices. Each face remembers its voice.
4. Talk. The character listens while you speak, glances away while ChatGPT thinks, and speaks the answer with its face. Interrupt it the way you would interrupt a person.

Your ChatGPT, not a copy of it

Facelet has no AI of its own and no persona layered on top. When you ask something, ChatGPT answers, in the voice you chose, from the account you pay for. That means the knowledge, the reasoning and the voice quality are OpenAI’s, and they improve when OpenAI improves them. What Facelet does not touch

Each Facelet conversation is a new voice conversation. Facelet never reads your ChatGPT chat history or memories, never imports the chat you were having in the ChatGPT app, and never stores your ChatGPT credentials. Signing out of Facelet ends its access. The conversation itself runs between your Mac and OpenAI; it does not pass through Facelet’s servers.

You need a ChatGPT plan that includes voice conversation. OpenAI includes ChatGPT Voice on the desktop with Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise.
