Talk the way you would to a person
Say something and the character answers out loud, in the ChatGPT voice you chose for it. Ask a follow-up, change the subject or interrupt a reply. Choose how it listens: always listening, a push-to-talk key, or a wake word, so you can start talking without touching the computer.
A face that shows it is listening
While you speak, the character faces you. While it waits for an answer, its gaze shifts. While it replies, Facelet animates the mouth, jaw, brows and eyes from the reply audio as it plays, with blinks and breathing between turns. Ask for a smile, a nod or a wink and it does it. It is a real-time AI avatar, rendered live rather than played back from a clip.
No meter running
The character is drawn by your own computer’s graphics hardware, not streamed from a server. So Facelet has no per-minute fee and no limit on how long the character runs: talk for five minutes or keep it on screen all afternoon. Facelet is free for 30 days, then $4.99 a month during the open beta, $9.99 a month after. The conversation itself comes from your ChatGPT plan, and that plan’s usage limits still apply. What you need
- An Apple silicon Mac (M1 or newer) with macOS 15 or newer; 16 GB of memory recommended. A native Windows PC app is coming soon.
- A compatible paid ChatGPT account. Sign in once; there is no API key to paste. If you prefer, Cloud conversations use your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key instead.
- An internet connection for the conversation. The face is rendered on your computer.
Things to talk about
Practice a new language or your English out loud. Run a mock interview. Have it quiz you before an exam. Keep it in the corner as a body double while you work, or just talk through your day.
What it is not
It is not a person, and it doesn’t pretend to be one: the character is labeled as AI, and the replies come from ChatGPT, which can make mistakes. It is not an avatar generator that turns a photo into a picture or video clip, and it never uses your camera. Read how Facelet handles safety and your data.

Questions
Is there an AI you can talk to like a person?
Facelet turns your ChatGPT into a lifelike 3D person on your screen. You talk out loud; it listens, thinks and answers in a ChatGPT voice while its eyes, face and mouth move with the conversation. It is still an AI: the replies come from ChatGPT, and the app labels the character as AI.
Does it talk back out loud?
Yes. Replies play in the ChatGPT voice you choose for each character. You can ask a follow-up, change the subject or interrupt a reply, much as you would on a call.
Can it see me?
No. Facelet never turns on your camera. The character responds to what you say, not to your face or your surroundings.
Is it free?
Facelet is free for 30 days, with no card and no automatic charge, then $4.99 a month during the open beta, $9.99 a month after. The conversation uses your own paid ChatGPT plan, during the trial too, and that plan’s usage limits apply. Facelet itself has no per-minute fee.
Do I need an API key?
No. Sign in with your ChatGPT account once. If you prefer, Cloud conversations let you bring your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key instead; that usage is billed by the provider.
Is this an AI avatar generator?
No. Avatar generators turn a photo or a script into a picture or a video clip. Facelet makes no videos: it renders a live character on your computer that you have a conversation with.
