Native apps for Mac and Windows PCs
Facelet is built as a native desktop app for both platforms. The Mac app is available now. The Windows app is coming soon, with signing, installer testing and hardware qualification still in progress. See the Windows release status before planning a PC installation.
Your computer draws the character
The character is a 3D scene rendered by your graphics hardware. Facelet analyzes reply audio locally to animate the mouth and face while the conversation plays. The character is not a video stream from Facelet’s servers.
Local rendering still depends on the computer. Frame rate, animation timing, heat and power use vary with the hardware, rendering settings and other apps. ChatGPT conversation also depends on your internet connection and OpenAI’s service.
Where the data goes
| Part of Facelet | Where it runs |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT conversation | Between the app and OpenAI, through your signed-in ChatGPT account |
| Character rendering and facial animation | On your computer |
| Account, billing and license checks | Facelet’s services and the providers named in the privacy policy |
| Character downloads and app updates | Downloaded from Facelet’s services |
| Optional usage and diagnostic reports | Sent according to the app’s settings and the privacy policy |
Local rendering does not mean an offline conversation or that the app sends no data. Read the privacy policy for the full account.
Mac requirements
The released Mac app requires Apple silicon, M1 or newer, and macOS 15 or newer. We recommend 16 GB of memory. Allow about 3 GB of free disk space to install, plus 0.2 to 0.7 GB per additional character and at least 0.5 GB spare while a character downloads. Intel Macs are not supported.
Windows requirements are being qualified
The planned Windows target is Windows 11 24H2 or newer on x64 PCs with DirectX 12 and Shader Model 6 support. Physical graphics testing currently covers the NVIDIA RTX 2080. Other GPUs, integrated graphics, hybrid laptops and a final graphics-memory minimum have not been qualified. This is a development target, not a promise that every Windows PC will run Facelet.
Customer installers and Windows trials remain closed until the release is ready. The Windows page has the current status and release requirements.

Questions
Does Facelet work offline?
Local rendering does not make Facelet an offline assistant. ChatGPT conversation, sign-in, activation, downloads and updates need internet access. Subscription checks and protected character content can also require a connection.
