How to give ChatGPT a face on Mac and Windows

A live avatar for your ChatGPT conversations
Facelet gives ChatGPT a lifelike 3D character with gaze, breathing and facial animation. Choose a face and a voice, then have a conversation through your own ChatGPT account. The character’s listening, thinking and speaking states give you visual cues as the conversation moves along.
Three things “a face for ChatGPT” can mean
A profile picture. A still image gives an account a visual identity. It does not animate with speech.
A video avatar. An avatar service can generate a clip or stream a talking face. Check whether it supports a live conversation, how it connects to a model, and how usage is billed.
A native desktop avatar. Facelet renders its character on your computer as the conversation happens. It has native Mac and Windows apps: Mac is available now, and Windows is coming soon. Their setup requirements differ.
Set up Facelet on a Mac
- Install Facelet on an Apple silicon Mac. It needs an M1 chip or newer and macOS 15 or newer. Intel Macs are not supported, because the face is rendered live on the graphics chip.
- Activate Facelet, then connect ChatGPT. Use your Facelet email to start the Mac trial or activate your subscription. Connect your ChatGPT account separately through the app’s sign-in flow. Facelet does not require an OpenAI API key; your ChatGPT plan’s access and usage limits still apply.
- Choose a face and a voice. Pick one of the ten characters in the first collection, then choose a voice from the app’s voice picker. Each face remembers the voice you gave it.
- Talk. Speak the way you would to a person. The character looks at you while you talk, glances away while it thinks, and answers as it speaks. Ask for a nod, a shake of the head or a wink, or tell it to hold still.

What to expect
Facelet is in open beta. The character is rendered live, and its mouth can trail the voice by a fraction of a second. Response time also depends on the ChatGPT connection and your computer. The Mac app starts a separate conversation; it does not import a chat already open in ChatGPT. The Mac connection has been tested with ChatGPT Pro; other plans are being validated.
What you need on a Mac
- A Mac with Apple silicon, M1 or newer, running macOS 15 or newer. 16 GB of memory is recommended, with about 3 GB of free disk space to install, and 0.2 to 0.7 GB for each extra character (keep 0.5 GB spare while one downloads).
- A ChatGPT subscription that includes voice conversation.
- A microphone to speak to ChatGPT. Your Mac’s built-in one is fine; headphones can reduce speaker feedback.

Facelet for Windows
The native Windows version renders the character on your PC. Its current ChatGPT connection requires a separately installed Codex helper signed in with ChatGPT. Windows downloads and trials will open after signing and release testing are complete. Hardware qualification and clean-machine setup are still in progress; follow the Windows requirements and release status before planning a PC installation.
