ChatGPT Voice on the Mac: what it does, and how to put a face on it
A Mac-focused guide to ChatGPT Voice, Facelet’s separate ChatGPT connection, and the microphone and account settings to check before you start.

Start with your ChatGPT account
ChatGPT Voice lets you have a spoken conversation in the ChatGPT desktop app. OpenAI’s current Voice guide lists Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise, with availability also depending on rollout and workspace settings. Those are OpenAI’s availability rules; they do not establish that every plan has been tested with Facelet.
This guide covers Facelet on macOS. For a PC, see the native Windows version’s release status; the Mac installation and sign-in steps are not Windows instructions.
The voices
Use Facelet’s voice picker to choose from the voices offered by its ChatGPT connection. You can assign a different voice to each character, and the Mac app remembers that pairing. Voice options can change as OpenAI updates the service.
Putting a face on it
Facelet for Mac connects to your ChatGPT account and opens its own voice conversation. It renders a lifelike human character locally and animates the face as the reply plays. You activate Facelet with your Facelet email, then connect ChatGPT separately. There is no OpenAI API key to paste, and your ChatGPT plan’s access and usage limits still apply.
The Mac app does not import a conversation already open in ChatGPT. Facelet is an independent product with its own subscription, and is not affiliated with OpenAI.

A few practical notes
- Facelet asks for microphone permission the first time, like any voice app on macOS.
- If your Mac’s speakers feed your microphone in a small room, headphones make the conversation cleaner.
- Facelet needs an Apple silicon Mac, M1 or newer, and macOS 15 or newer; the face is rendered on the graphics chip in real time.
- The Mac connection has been tested with ChatGPT Pro; other plans are being validated.
